Ultimate Dad n Lad!

Bryan and I have been doing "Dad n Lads" for a long time now. We've done a number of events and outings: Bookstores, movies, video game nights, White Castle, Waffle House, Big Steaks, the mall, concerts, Moe's, Pet Stores, etc. Just to name a few.

Tuesday night was yet another Dad n Lad...we went to the Yum Center in Louisville to see Rush. Our faces were rocked off...we high-fived, cheered, yelled and screamed. Great night! Great concert! I hope I'm kicking like these guys when I'm sixty!

Beezer...I love you...hope we go to more concerts like this! I just love spending time with you.

Here's the run down of a Saturday in the Prosser household:

9:00am Woke Up! (This is an absolute rarity! Ellie is typically an early riser and I usually don't sleep past 8am on "sleep-in" days)
9am - 10:30am Let the laziness begin. Laid in bed, played with Ellie, watched home improvement shows, Sportscenter.
10:45am Took shower
11:00am More laziness
11:30am Ate lunch...peanut butter and strawberry jelly
11:45am Read, dozed off
12:30pm Played with Ellie
1:00pm Woke Bryan up...typical Saturday wake up for him
1:15pm More playing with Ellie
2:15pm Went to Lexington to meet up with the Osborne's
3:00pm Hung out with Doug, Michelle and Bella
Made Christmas cookies (tradition!), ate, watched NCAA
Played PS3, Frosted cookies, ate cookies
Continued to hang out with some lifelong great friends!
9:00pm Headed home, back to Richmond!
9:30pm Home, Chilling out
11:00pm Good-night!

March Madness

The madness has begun and it is March. If you know me or follow this blog, you know that I'm a pretty BIG Louisville Cardinal fan. Lot of folks ask why...well, that's where I grew up...my first Cardinal basketball game was with my dad when I was nine years old, I have great memories that go all the way back to 1980 when the Cards one their first NCAA title.

This basketball season Holly and I have had a ball watching the games (no pun intended!). We don't miss too many of them...the ones we can't watch, we are either listening on the radio or following them on our phones. We're big fans! Football and basketball!

The Cards are in the semi-finals tonight of the Big East Tournament. After routing Marquette last night...they'll meet up with Notre Dame tonight. Ought to be a good one.

The Big East Tournament is always held at Madison Square Garden in NY City. We have always wanted to go to the tournament...thinking of doing so next year. We'll see...

In the mean time here's some pics of our basement...one side is a media / TV room...the other side is the Cardinal den. Again, we're BIG fans!

Baptism

One of the many exciting things that I get to be a part of as a pastor is baptism. Over the years I have had the privilege and honor to baptize many...I really wish I kept a record of these from day one.

I'll never forget my first baptism. I was serving as the youth pastor at Broadway Baptist church in Lexington, KY and one of our youth made had become a believer and wanted to be baptized. His name was Chad and he stood 6 feet, 4 inches...a tall, lanky teenager.

To prepare for my first baptism I thought that I needed to practice, so I called my good buddy Andy Eldeen (he stood 5 feet, 11 inches). On a Saturday night before Chad's baptism I practiced at the church with Andy. I think I dunked him at least ten times that night! Dude, there will be some extra jewels in that crown for that! But it was so helpful...they don't teach you these things at seminary!

Everything went very well the next day...it was such an honor to baptize Chad. I remember being so nervous, I didn't want to screw this up. But the important thing is that Chad followed in the footsteps of Jesus and publicly shouted to the world that he belonged to God.

Since that day I've baptized many...and I'll tell you this, every time that I have the opportunity, it is such a humbling experience to be a part of. I will never take those moments for granted...I'll always celebrate baptism.

New Revelation

Ever read a familiar story in the Bible...thinking you've heard every angle, commentary, and study??

I was reading this morning in John 21...when Jesus appears to His disciples for a third time and restores Peter. I had a NEW REVELATION moment as I studied and read. Saw some things I've never seen before...things that make sense about a relationship with God through His Son Jesus.

I love moments like that. Reminds and encourages me to be in the word more. Reminds me of what Hebrews 4:12 says.

Have any new revelations in scripture lately...hope so!

My little boy is 3 and 3/4's today

How is this so? He was born February 29th, 1996. Yep, a Leap Day baby! Early when Bryan was old enough to rememeber celebrating his birthday, he didn't like the fact that he wouldn't always have a exact day to celebrate...just every four years.

But as he got older...he began to dig this.

I've always told him that he could drive when he was four.

At four-and-a-half he would be "legal" and be able to vote.

When he is five-and-a-quarter he would be considered an "adult."

At age of six...he might even be married! Maybe!

Anyhoo...today, he's unofficially 15...my little boy is 15!!

His gift from his mom and I...two tickets to go see RUSH in concert during Spring Break at the KFC Yum Center. And yes, one of those tickets is for me. This will be a pretty cool dad and lad night.

Love you Beezer! You make me proud just because you're our son!

The Amazing Race

You have ONE minute to audition in front of the camera as to why you should be on The Amazing Race. No re-dos, or start overs...one minute!

On Friday me and my buddy William stood in line for 8 hours to audition. We met some really cool people from all over the place (mainly from KY)...we practiced just a little as to what we would say...we mainly stuck to our guns in not rehersing it to the "T". We wanted to make it sound very natural.

Our angle?? We used the fact that William played college football at Clemson University and me being a pastor from a small town. We also did the whole Ebony and Ivory schitck! He's black and I'm white, get it?

Don't know if we'll get called back...would LOVE to do this show. But hey, if we don't, at least we tried...and in the end have made some really cool memories.

We tried out last year for the show by sending in a DVD along with a huge application. Here's the video we used.

I'll let you know what happens.

The Amazing Race

Missing it...

I love the church that I serve...we've been at First Baptist Richmond for almost twelve years now. Mentors in my life have always said there were great rewards to longevity in ministry. In particular staying at one place for a long period of time. I have found this to be true at FBC...again, I love the people in this place.

I've watched our church change in a lot of different ways...some of those changes were embraced, some not so much embraced, but endured. And not just change for the sake of change, but change as to our overall mission as a church. And that's a good thing! Because to me our overall mission as a church is to be like Jesus in everything that we do. Read scripture...He was all about doing life different and it involved a lot of change. Jesus was all about elevating His Father.

But some people just miss that. They miss the "being like Jesus" part. They miss the part that those who don't know Jesus really don't give a flip about church politics and our own personal agendas.

It's sad that some believers miss this. It has made for some interesting conversation that I have no problem engaging in...I pray to be able to be a change agent when I have those kinds of conversations.

I think Psalm 115:1 sums it up pretty well...

"Not to us, LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness."

Daddy/Daughter Dance

Last Saturday night me and Ellie went to the Daddy/Daughter Dance at Trinity Christian School in Lexington. She wore a beautiful black and red dress...I even broke out in a suit and tie...after all this was a dance.

We had a great time together...she soaked up every bit as it looked very princess like with all the decorations and lights. Ellie loves watching princess movies as I too have learned to enjoy! She loves to mimic some of the princesses...even down to how they dance. She did that at the dance...holding her little dress to the side and instructing me exactly how to hold my hand. It was a sweet moment that I'll never forget.

We did all the basic dances to songs that you would expect to hear. The YMCA, You make me want to Shout song, even did the hokey pokey!

We sipped on lemonade and ate little cakes together. It was a very memorable night with my girl.

Hapy Valentines Day

I have told folks that everyday is Valentines day with my Valentine. I get the usual response of "ughhhh" or "awwwww" or the gag-me-with-a-spoon reaction. That's okay...it's just because they're jealous!

I love my Hollybird...she's been my valentine a long time.

Where are you Spring?

I know it's February...it's supposed to be cold and snowy, you know wintery!

We've had LOTS of snow thus far...tonight it's supposed to get down to 11 degrees!! I don't do cold weather very well.

It wasn't always this way...my feelings and dislike with cold weather that is. Back in 2001 I lost 40+ pounds and I'm pretty sure that's when I started really disliking winter and cold weather. I guess I lost some of my fat lining or something like that.

At least March is right around the corner. In the mean time I'll dress warm.

2123rd Homecoming

December 2009 the 2123rd National Guard Transportation Unit had a farewell ceremony at Madison Central High School in Richmond, KY. I remember sitting there watching these 150 men and women preparing to say good-bye to their loved ones as they traveled to Afghanistan for a year. I remember lots of tears being shed...numerous last hugs...and just a lot of sad faces.

I remember watching and listening to a soldier tell his little boy and girl, "Daddy loves you...I'll talk to you on the computer soon." After that I'm turning away because I'm in tears. Dang, I can't imagine what that is like...and I really don't wish to find out.

This past Friday was the homecoming...after being gone a year...after losing one of their fellow soldiers...after being under attack several times and wounded...family and friends lined up for a serious homecoming.

Our church had the privilege to host this homecoming...throughout the year when the 2123rd was away we had an ongoing relationship with their families who met at First Baptist each month for support.

Three huge buses pulled up...families had already started storming the bus that their loved one was on. And then it was nothing but hugs, tears (a different kind!), 'hooting and hollering', the beginning of a homecoming celebration.

I hope we will be able to continue this relationship with the 2123rd for future homecomings. It was a GREAT time...a very patriotic time...I was proud of these men and women...it was a good day.

Newport Getaway!

Last weekend Holly and I got away for two days of:
-No Children
-No Schedule
-No Alarm Clocks
-No Agenda (uh, well...maybe a hidden agenda!)
-No Cat walking around the bed at 2am
-No little girl waking up at the CRACK of dawn coming to let us know, "I'm up!"
-No Responsibility for anything work related
-No little drummer boys drumming
-No BIG decision making
-No worries!
-Spent four hours at the IKEA store after thinking we'd just browse through a bit
-Sipped on lots of coffee
-Slept in late (8am!!! That's late for us!)
-Went to the movies...saw 127 Hours...good flick!
-Ate some great seafood at Joe's Crab Shack
-Played video games and won cheap prizes for our kids
-Shopped at the Florence Mall
-Followed the Cards beating UCONN in the food court with our phones...I think I hit the refresh button at least 250 times!
-Took our time...savored every minute...love spending time with my wife!

I'm sure I'm missing a few...all in all it was a great get away. Like I said in my last post, married couple MUST do this from time to time. I'm looking forward to our next get away...

Working for the weekend

Tomorrow after work Holly and I are getting out of town for a few days. Mom is coming down to take care of Bryan and Ellie. We've been trying to have get-aways at least 2-3 times a year.

I'm convinced you have to have times like this to keep a marriage solid and focused. I've seen too many couples who are just struggling with their marriage. I know there are a wide range of reasons for the struggles, but I think one reason is because couples have forgotten how to communicate with each other. They've forgotten how to communicate why they got married in the first place...love.

I realize in a family there are lots of "hats" being worn by husbands and wives...work and schedules sometimes get overwhelming. Even when you are home together as a family, needs of our kiddos override the needs of the husband and wife.

So that's why we carve out weekends like this. And you have to do just that...carve out time. Plan ahead and schedule it, because there will always be something else that will take its place.

I love weekends like this with Holly. We have undivided time for one another...no schedule, no kids, no demands, just time one on one.

Birthdays and mom

We went up to the Ville this past Saturday to visit with family. Mom's birthday was last week, my nephew Aaron's is this week...so we did us some celebrating at the Olive Garden.

Always love visiting with my family...Jim, Lisa and mom have this beautiful ski-lodge type home they built...fireplace and all. It's just nice and cozy.

We have always enjoyed eating out together...typically mom picks up the tab, but not this time! But we will allow her to continue...if she wants ;)

Cardinal Basketball

So we are in full swing of NCAA b-ball. As a fan of all kinds of sports, I'm thinking college basketball is becoming my favorite. Especially watching the Louisville Cardinals.

A young team this year...just one senior. Lot's of talent and sort of a rebuilding year. Coach Pitino seems to be a little more focused than last and for obvious reasons. As of now they are experiencing some injuries of key players, but they are playing well. So who knows...maybe come March they could make a decent run.

Highlight of the new Cardinal season is the new stadium. Dang it's purty! Holly and I got to go to a game back in December with some good friends. The outside of the Yum Center matches the inside! Incredible!

Wonder who is paying for that place??

Baby it's cold...

The snow started last night...woke up to at least two inches and some stinking cold weather. It's like single digit cold. I'm not wired as a cold weather person...I would prefer it to be 80-90 degrees all day everyday. Holly on the other hand would prefer snow and cold all day everyday.

I can't imagine living somewhere when the temperatures are sub degree everyday. It's gotta be a totally different kind of a lifestyle.

Forecast for the next week...COLD. No 80-90 degree weather in sight.

A few thoughts...

Haven't posted a great deal lately. The busyness of life here in our household just went up a notch this week as Bryan started school this week. He's a sophomore now and that really just doesn't seem right. We are back on a "routine" schedule now and I sorta like that...it seems to help me a bit.

Today Ellie had a doctors appointment...while she was there Holly asked the nurse to measure and weigh her. In almost a year she's gained like ten pounds and grown "like a weed." What a difference a year has made in her life and in ours.

I can truly type that phrase of my life being different because of Ellie in our family. We hear the phrase all the time from people, "Ellie's life will never be the same because of what you guys did." But the reality is our lives will never be the same. I am different than I was a year ago and I continue to have a very constant struggle in my mind about what's next.

Yep Ellie is home, but there is still 147 million others out there who are orphaned. Are we done? Am I supposed to think that we've done our part? What are we to do next? What about those 147 million? What about those who are in our own community who live in the same conditions that Ellie came from? Are we supposed to adopt again? Are we supposed "to do" something else?

I have a lot of distractions in my life that I can run to when I begin to think about these questions. I won't list these distractions because I'm not on a crusade to make anyone "feel" guilty. However you could probably guess what some of those distractions are...might be some of the same ones you have.

I watched a video that a former youth had posted on her blog. She and her husband just recently adopted from Ethiopia. The video was done by a group called "Ordinary Hero" and it just really broke me up a bit. The video is real, the images are real, the kids and their stories are real...we were there this time last year. So as I'm watching this video I'm thinking about those questions up there.

Do me a favor and watch this video...and then do some thinking about what we are supposed to do. I'm still struggling about what to do...maybe you could help me.

Vacation 2010

I forgot how much I love the beach. We returned home yesterday from ten days on the beach...Madeira Beach, FL. GREAT time away with my family. Probably one of the most restful vacations ever. No schedule to keep, no big decisions to make, and I never once wore my watch.

We ate some great seafood (my favorite is grouper)...shopped at John's Pass...rode some jet ski's...went shark fishing...made lots of sandcastles...swam at the pool and in the ocean...some good reading on the deck...great times alone with the Father.

Lots of memories were made...I love me family. I'm ready to go back!

Retro Music

Ever get into a "retro music" mood? That's been me lately with an oldie, but a goodie! Remember the band Live? Ed Kowalczyk and crew were a HUGE hit back in the early 90's right about the time when Nirvana hit the scene.

I came across a great article about Ed the other day and how he had come back to his faith in Jesus Christ. The band seemed to always have some pretty heavy Christian overtones to their lyrics.

In t-minus six days the Prosser family will be on a big ole jet airliner...and heading off for some R&R. Destination? Maderia Beach, Florida (right below Clearwater) So far no oil! I really don't think that will be an issue...but if I start seeing "tar balls" you'll probably hear me scream.

We haven't been to the beach in about three years. Typically we have gone with my side of the family, but this time around it will be just the four of us.

I'm really looking forward to getting away...haven't taken any time off since Christmas last year. So I am definitely ready. Agenda for the week? That's easy...making some serious family memories, eating at our favorite places (Frog Pond, Crabby Bills, The Hut to name a few!), and making sure that the biggest decision each day will be to decided where to eat that night!

I'm one that really enjoys the anticipation of the vacation. I'll look at pics from the past, drink coffee from my Frog Pond cup and talk about past memories with Holly and Bryan.

It's going to be a good time...right now I want to continue to anticipate and savor the countdown.

I'm going to copy a journal entry that I made this morning...yep, I keep another journal in a notebook. Here it is:

6/29/10
I went to another funeral last night - the fifth one in two weeks. Pretty uncommon for us to have this many in such a short time. Every service I attended, I listened, thought, prayed, wondered, re-focused. Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 7:2, "Better to spend your time at funerals than at parties. After all, everyone dies - so the living should take this heart." He was so right - going to a funeral service makes you, forces you to think about life - your life! That's what I did last night. My friend Matt Flynn died of MS at the age of 51. That's too young to die. Tragic and sad, yet last night was a true celebration - I believe God was worshiped, people were challenged, people remembered. Pictures of Matt last night was the highlight for me - pictures of a man who lived life to its fullest, even to the very end.

Maybe everyone does this...whenever I go to a funeral, I begin to think what my funeral would look like. What would be said? Who would be sharing? What was my life all about? Really makes you think...reminds me to live life to its fullest.

My day of birth...

So today I'm 42. Don't feel like 42, not sure what it's supposed to feel like. My family gave me a very cool present. We are going to Florida this summer for vacation and while we are there Holly booked a Shark Fishing Excursion for me and Bryan! We'll set sail at 7pm and return at midnight. Never been fishing for shark! What a great gift!!

Other way cool gifts:
-scored some CA$H and bought a new circular saw. Trying to add more to the "woodshop."
-German Chocolate cake from mom! This is the best cake in the world and it's all mine!
-might use some cash for something I've been contemplating for a long time...I'll share in a later post.

Today...I'm working at church. Tonight we're grilling out. Just some great time with my family.

Freedom & Memorial Day Weekend

I'm sure there are a thousand ways to define "freedom" and chances are we all have different ideas behind it's truest meaning. I would suspect most Americans do not have a notion of what it would mean not to have freedom...including myself.

So I try to educate myself and remember what was put on the line in order for me to do something as simple as blogging, not to mention a thousand other things that we Americans have the "freedom" to do.

Tomorrow is Memorial Day...formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. I can't recall anyone in my family who has died while serving in the military...but when I get a chance to speak to a veteran I try to convey my thanks to them for their service.

A high price was paid, no doubt. I think a great reminder for all Americans is to watch "Saving Private Ryan" if not the whole movie, just the first 15 minutes. It depicts what D-day could have looked like. It's gruesome and raw to watch. One day I want Bryan to sit and watch it with me. I think it's a good reminder to know the price for freedom.

In connection to my relationship with God. I have experienced "freedom" from a former way of living by accepting God's son Jesus, as my Lord and Savior. But that freedom came with a price.

No huge plans for Memorial Day. Bryan has to go to school. Holly, Ellie and I are going to help a fellow church move to a new location. It will some great time spent with family and friends.

Bryan had an unfortunate skateboarding accident Saturday afternoon. He was on EKU's campus riding on his new long board. He was shredding into a curve that was a little too sharp and he knew he had to bail. So he jumped for the grass and the pictures tell the rest of the story.

I'm hurting for my son...as a parent you never want your children to encounter any kind of harm. But, being that Bryan is a skateboarder...this comes with the territory.

I remember when I was 13 years old and went down a hill that was way too much for my ability...I ended up with a lot of road rash much like Bryan's...even have a scar on my hand to be a permanent reminder!

After he was cleaned and bandaged up I asked him if he was getting back on that thing...he said, "Oh yea!" I'm glad to hear him say that...just because you fall down doing something you love, doesn't mean you just stay down...that's where the passion and zeal kick in!

I recently purchased a new bible software called "glo". It's a multi-dimensional bible program with HD videos, Interactive maps, time lines, and oh yea it has the bible as well!

I've been playing around with it for a couple of days. Very impressive...very user friendly. I amazed how passionate people are about putting God's word in a format like this with some very cool 'bells and whistles'.

I ran the mini marathon a few weeks ago...13.1 miles! This is was fourth time running this race, twice in high school...last year of course was the "Run for Ellie" and then this year.

Finished the race despite some serious leg cramping at mile ten. Never have I experienced this kind of cramping before. I guess not enough water inside of me.

This year I was extremely excited that Holly completed her first mini. Even with a temperature of 101 at the beginning of the race. Her fever broke about mile nine and she finished very strong! I was so proud of my wife!

So...it's been almost a month since the mini and on Tuesday this past week I ran for the first time since and in all actuality it felt as if it was the first time that I had ever ran!! Dang it was tough. Just ran three miles, but it felt like ten.

Got out again tonight and ran three again...not as bad, but tough.

Not sure what's next in my "running career." I'm considering doing a 5K on Memorial Day and then a 10K on July 3rd. I really enjoy the first mile and then when the running is complete.

We'll see...my goal is to do three miles three times a week, maybe build from there. My mind would like to attempt a full marathon...but my body at this point is yelling, "You got to be kidding me!"

Holly is an excellent mom. Lately Ellie has been calling her "mama"...not sure where that came from, but it's cute.

I've learned so much about being a parent by watching Holly with Bryan and Ellie. She loves her children..she exercises great patience with them...she's definitely a nurturer. I love to listen to her explain life things to Bryan and Ellie...she uses great discretion with them and she knows how to be a fun mom.

But most importantly she is a Godly mom who strives to teach God lessons along the way. This comes natural to her because she is a Godly women.

Happy Mama's Day Bird...I love you so much...You are an incredible mom.

Marking up your bible

I remember sitting in a seminary class once and the discussion came up about underlining your favorite verses in your bible...you know marking it up.

One guy in particular said that he doesn't do that because you would have to underline everything...everything is "worthy" of underlining in the bible. I didn't really agree...I'm pretty sure not too many people have underlined Psalm 137:9 (go ahead and look it up, it's one of those obscure verses in the bible, but there for a reason...that's another post)

Well I'm a bible highlighter. I've underlined verse, written notes, etc. all throughout my Bible. I also sometimes put dates beside a verse...all of this to remind me of a particular season of my life where that verse was powerful and helpful.

Is it wrong to mark up God's word? I don't think so. Matter of fact I think Christians cut verses out of the Bible that they don't like...maybe not literally, but they may ignore verses that strike some serious nerves in our lives. Believe me, I'm guilty of this too!

I remember a quote from my youth minister Kerry Jones...he was preaching in "big church" once and he said, "I want you to underline that verse, use a pen, pencil, crayon...gosh maybe even spit on it to remember where it is."

I've underlined in pen, highlighters, pencil...but never spit. At least not yet!

So my struggle of which social media venue to devote time is this...Facebook or Blogging.

I've thoroughly enjoyed my blogging years, but FB seems to be where more people are and it's just easier to communicate little thoughts about life, etc.

Blogging provides opportunity for more in depth thoughts, stories, and rants. I really enjoy looking back three years ago to see "where I was" in life, even with pics.

On the flip side Facebook has opened the door to reconnection with so many friends and family. In the past year I've communicated more with friends I graduated with in high school...connected with family members that I typically see at funerals.

Hmmmm...I'm a torn. Do I continue blogging? If you follow my blog you know that I can go in spurts of drought from time to time. What do you think?

Easter Sunday

It's Saturday but Sunday is coming...Easter Sunday! Far more than Easter bunnies and eggs...never really understood that one, even when I was little.

Here are a few words that come to mind when I think about Easter weekend:
Finished, Pain, Hope, Completion, Forgiveness, GRACE, Love, selfless, Jesus, worship, sad, anticipation, amazing, resurrection, miraculous, mercy, obedience...

I know there are others...many others, but these stand out to me.

Because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, my life has never been the same. For God so loved Jeff that He gave His one and only Son that if Jeff believes in Him, He will not perish, but have everlasting life. Can you insert your name?

Resurrection Sunday is what separates Christianity from ALL religions of the world. Go to the graves of all those other gods and they will be there...but if you go to the grave of Jesus Christ...you won't find Him there because He overcame death.

That's a powerful, almighty God.

In training...

Mini-Marathon is in four weeks...here are some thoughts...

-The best part about running...is when it's over! So why run? It's a goal...something that drives my competitive side...
-Got some new running shoes last week...after running ten miles on Saturday I came to the conclusion that buying the shoes was EXACTLY what I needed. Feet didn't hurt afterward, knees felt great...good money spent!
-Running shoes last anywhere between 300-600 miles.
-After Saturday's run my calves are still on fire!
-Saturday I ran with my buddy Jon...running buddies are a good thing...that encouragement part was pretty huge for me, especially trekking up a steep, long hill.
-PROUD of my wife Hollybird...she's been rocking the training. Did I mention I was PROUD of her!
-Right now I'm averaging a 10:30 - 11:00 minute per mile...would love to make that a solid 10 minute mile.
-My goal for the mini is too finish in 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Here's a little video I found online that recaps Saturday's game between the Cards and Syracuse. If you missed the game...you missed a great game (even if you are a cat fan!).

There could not have been a better way to end a 50+ year era at Freedom Hall...really wanted to be there, but loved watching at home with Holly.

Hopefully the Cards will continue on with Saturday's high as they play Cincinnati tonight in the Big East Tournament.

The "new" Karate Kid?

I am a BIG time fan of the original Karate Kid (1984)...the first one that is, not Karate Kid 2, 3, 4...was there a four?? Anyhoo...loved the first one, thought Ralph Macchio was great, but Pat Morita was even better as Mr. Miyagi.

So when I saw this I thought...nah, can't touch the original...after watching the trailer I thought...hmmmmmmm...maybe! Enjoy...comes out this summer!

Constructive Criticism and American Idol

I like to think I'm a fan of Constructive Criticism. I try to welcome this and again I think most folks would SAY they want that, but do we really?

First off CC is simply to critique an individual so they will benefit or improve. Sounds simple and nice, but not all people are receptive to it.

I like and really try to welcome CC...my biggest fan that I look to for this is my wife Holly, because she is honest and straightforward, yet gentle. Typically after I may preach or teach I'll ask her, "okay give me some constructive criticism..." For me...that's how I grow and learn. If someone just continues to "tickle" my ears I'll never benefit or improve.

Again, there are certain people who give me this and I hold on to their comments and allow them to help me improve. Notice I said certain people! Some of you who read this blog are some of those certain people.

The other night I was watching American Idol. One of the guys did his thing and waited to hear from the panel. The first three judges did not care for his performance, thought he missed it, didn't deliver...BUT when it was Simon's turn, he said, "I disagree with the others and think you hit a home run." You could see this guys face, demeanor, energy...every thing changed about him at that moment of one man's comment. It was like the other comments that were made...didn't matter! Oohh...that's powerful and I think there's a lesson in that.

Now I'm not advocating that we act and brutally criticize like a Simon...but I bet if you ask all the contestants of all the seasons of American Idol which judge's comments do you respect the most...I bet 95% would say Simon's.

There's a lesson there...stew on that a bit...let me know what you think...

Freedom Hall

This Saturday night is a big night for Louisville Cardinal Basketball. For 54 seasons Freedom Hall has been the home of not only Cardinal basketball, but to also several Final Fours, Sweet 16's, the ABA...but to me and most importantly Cardinal Basketball. Next season the Cards will have a very nice, shiny new, palatial home in downtown Louisville. We drove by it last weekend and it is something to see!

From time to time folks ask why I am such a BIG UofL fan...lots of reasons, one, that's my hometown and most my buddies were Card fans. But the one thing that "sold" me as a fan was the night my dad took me to my very first UL game. It was 1977 and I remember my dad coming home from work...he told me he wanted to go to the UL game that night and then he said to me, "You want to go?" Of course my sister Lisa and brother Scott were a bit jealous, but they got over it.

I remember driving up to the Fairgrounds and walking up to the ticket booth, it was a cold night, and dad told the ticket man, "Give me your two best seats." We were in the end zone of Freedom Hall...the place was rocking, really don't remember who they were playing, but it didn't matter. We were watching the Cards doing warm-ups and my dad pointed out the man, the myth, the legend, Darrell "Dr. Dunkenstein" Griffith.

From that night on I was sold as a fan of the Cards. Since then I've been to plenty of Cardinal games at Freedom Hall...some really exciting games (my favorite was watching the Cards win against a highly raked Kentucky team, this is when Pitino was the UK coach and boy he was fired up in the post game show.)

I hope to see the Cards play in the Downtown Arena...maybe make some new memories there. But looking back at good ole Freedom Hall my favorite memory has to be going with dad for the first time. Thanks dad...I think you would like our UL basement!

Bryan's Birthday Weekend!

Our son Bryan will officially turn 3 1/2 this weekend...he'll be 14 in people years! Yep, his birthday is on Leap Day and it's really hard to believe that he will be 14.

The time has flown by...I hope that I've been able to savor all moments with him. He's turning into a young man...voice is changing, we are trying to give him more responsibility, he's even starting to take me down when we wrestle!

Plans for the celebration?? Going to Louisville sometime on Saturday, we're staying with mom for the night. Dinner will be at Hard Rock Cafe downtown Louisville...after dinner we are going to the Brown Theater to see Brian Reagan. Brian Reagan is a really great comedian who literally makes me laugh just by looking at him. He's been a favorite of ours for awhile...so we all are pretty stoked about the night.

Bryan, I love you...I love doing our "Dad and Lad" times together...I love playing video games with you, wrestling, playing outside...you name it, I love our time together. The most important thing that I pray over you for is that you would be a Godly young man who lives his life as a testimony to God...I pray that you see that in your dad, that is what I'm striving for each and every day! You are my #1 son (and your response to that is always, "Dad...I'm your only son!") I love you!

Federal Adoption Tax Credit

Been trudging through our tax returns over the past week or so. A GREAT bonus for us will be the federal adoption tax credit. This has made adoptions affordable for so many people. BUT...the tax credit is set to expire in December 2010 unless Congress votes to continue it.

The idea is to see this tax credit become a permanent deal.

Typically I'm off on Fridays...I like that...It's great way to begin the weekend. It's also a great opportunity for Ellie and I to spend some time together, since she doesn't go to the sitter on Friday's. So what's our agenda? Here it is, almost hour-by-hour:

7:30am - Take Bryan to school
8:15am - Daddy/Daughter Bagel Day (Pannera...mmmm good!)
9:00am - Watch Dora the Explorer with Ellie
9:30am - We are cleaning house...literally.

12:30pm - Nap time (for Ellie)
12:30pm - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Hey gotta play a little in life!)

3:00pm - Holly and Bryan come home
5:30pm - Going to Chicago Pizza in Lexington (mmmmm good!)
8:30pm - Watching some Olympics, maybe video games with Bryan, Ellie is in bed

Not a bad day in store. Love spending time with my family...MUST protect that time with them and always make the most of it.

I've really enjoyed watching the Olympics the past couple of days...there's something exciting when you hear that bass thumping Olympic theme, know what I'm talking about? Bom, Bom, Bom, Bom...da, da, dadadadum...

I'm a fan of the short track, skiing and snowboarding...maybe even a little curling! I enjoy some more than others! But Jeff what about ice skating? hmmmmm...I enjoyed watching the whole Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan fiasco! Does that count?

I did notice something the other night when Holly and I were watching the men's ice skating...notice I was watching with my wife. One of the skaters was in the middle of their routine and took a spill. Immediately commentators started with "Well, he's finished!" "His dreams have come to an end!" "It will be four more years of waiting!" Dang, thanks for the encouragement!

It struck me though...when skaters make one mistake, knowing that the mistake probably cost them a medal...how do they go on? It looks like most of them just suck it up and move on, as if nothing happened. But I'm sure that has to be lingering in their mind, "All that practice and I fell...what if I fall again." I think that takes a great deal of courage to continue even after one mistake...to complete the routine with integrity.

*I love what 1 John 1:9 says...
*I'm glad when we make a mistakes that God doesn't say "You blew it...you're done!"
*And even when we do blow it...God gives us great courage and strength to continue on...but we have to receive that forgiveness and not waller in the mud.
*Enjoy the rest the Olympics!

Mosaic Ministry

Our church started a new ministry back in August...more like revamped a current ministry. We live in a college town (Eastern Kentucky University) which means there are 13,000+ students on our backyard.

So we started a new class/ministry called Mosaic. It sounds trendy but I think it does justice describing us. Mosaic is a ministry for those who are 18-29 year olds. I know that's a wide range, but it seems to be working, granted our group is made up of mainly college students.

Me and my friend Wayne are tag teaming this class...I teach and he heads up the in/out reach.

I love teaching...more than that I love teaching this group. I've grown and learned a great deal from them, but I think that's the way it always works.

There are plenty more to reach...I think a college campus is one of the greatest mission fields on the planet. Come join the Mosaic!

if Captain Phil Harris had ever confessed Jesus as Lord of his life. I've been a fan of the Deadliest Catch every since it started. I'm not sure what is so intriguing about a documentary of men fishing for crab on the Bering Sea...but dang, it's such a cool show.

Phil is survived by his two sons Jake and Josh who were deckhands on the boat. He was a pretty gruff man who smoked like a chimney and cursed like a...captain of a boat?

When I heard this news of him dying from a stroke...the first thing a thought about was his eternal home. Did anyone ever tell him about Jesus? The gospel story? About what Jesus did for him on the cross?

I just wonder.

Edge Outreach

Just wanted to give a little spotlight to one of the most practical and impacting ministries that I've seen in a long time. Edge Outreach.

Let me tell you briefly why I'm spotlighting them...
After we brought Ellie home we found out that she had five parasites living inside her little body. Why the parasites, what caused them?? Bad water.

We began praying and looking for ways to do something about bad water. We have a good friend who serves on the board of directors with Edge Outreach, we talked with him and were very intrigued...to the point we said, "We're on board...how can we serve?"

Edge Outreach is all about providing clean water to countries, communities and towns where there is need. And how they do this is so biblical. Check out 2 Kings 2:19-22.

They already have a presence in Haiti doing what they do best...providing clean water!

Holly and I went for training in the areas of Health/Hygiene a few weekends ago. This area is where Holly is most passionate about and will continue. I am wanting to learn more about training others with the water purifiers whether on the field somewhere in the world or at the Edge's headquarters in Louisville.

Exciting stuff...you too can be a part of a basic need that should be so simple...water!!

2010 is off and running...I know, I know we're 23 days into it already. Seems lots has happened in those 23 days...just a few high and low points of the new year to this point.

-Brought in the new year with the fam...Bryan had a few buddies over to spend the night, Ellie was in bed by 8:30pm (that's late for her!), Holly and I struggled to stay up to see the ball drop...exciting huh!

-Jan. 6th-15th...SICK! Dang I was sick...stomach virus and a dose of the shingles. I thought shingles were something that you were prone to when you were in your 60's!! Nope, not the case. Had, what I would call, a medium dose. PAINFUL! Still have some scaring, but I think they are behind me.

-Holly and I are getting involved with an incredible ministry called Edge Outreach. I will definitely be blogging about this later this week. We were involved in some training on the 16th...looking forward to what's next with Edge.

-Our staff and lay leaders had an awesome weekend retreat the 22nd-23rd. Our church has reached the point where we have outgrown our facilities...and now we are looking for the next steps. Lifeway consulting came in and led this retreat...awesome job they did. What an honor it was to be a part of a great weekend that was full of visioning, energy and the Holy Spirit.

Christmas with Family Part 2

Following our Christmas Eve service our family went to the Waffle House for some dinner. This is a new tradition that we started last year. We'll give our waitress/waiter a gift card for Christmas just because they have to work on Christmas Eve and serve peoples like us!

Christmas Morning we woke up and headed for Louisville...home of the Johnson's, that's Holly's mom and dad. Once we arrived we had a little exchanging of gifts...then had a huge feast...our annual poker game is always a hoot, Bryan even played this year...ate a little more...and just enjoyed time together.

A couple of highlights of the weekend...
1. My niece Kristin shared a song with us in sign language that was just beautiful! She is one top gal...love her spirit about life...and just love her, on top of that she's a Cardinal fan!

2. Habeeb Priva was a new guest to us this year. This is a new tradition that started last year, my brother-n-law Chris has a great ability to make prank calls. Calls to uncles and aunts and my other brother-n-law Jim...lots of laughter was going on in the house.

3. Just being with family is always a highlight.

Christmas Traditions

Have any Christmas Traditions? We have several in the Prosser household...some we've done for 10+ years, some are just a year old, but we love them.

One of our traditions is to go to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington to the Southern Lights. We started this one when we first moved to Richmond...I think Bryan was three years old.

At the Southern Lights you can guess what they have! Lights! Big Lights, little lights, themed lights, odd lights, Star Wars lights! And after you look at the lights we always park the car and go look at all the exhibits they have. A great petting zoo, classic trains, Santa Clause, food and of course crafty things. One of my favorite is their kettle korn...mmmm good!

Here are a few pics of our time last Tuesday. Of course another Ellie "first". She was excited and shouted at every light we saw. Bryan, even though he's thirteen, still enjoys!

Christmas with Family Part 1

A "new" tradition that we started four years ago was to have my family to come down for a weekend of Christmas celebration. It's so hard trying to balance time between two families that live so close together. So we started this tradition to help us maximize our time together!

As usual, Holly cooked up a HUGE feast. She loves to cook and I'm glad...on top of that she's a great cook!

We ate and played the entire day...and then ate some more.

This of course was Ellie's first Christmas celebration with my family. The whole Christmas season has been filed with lots of "first" and we have loved every moment of them.

I love my family...I really try to savor every moment with them making sure not to wish the days away.

We laughed, ate, played COD, watch some old UL basketball video, exchanged gifts, ate, napped, etc. The time went by way to fast...it always does!

Hollybird's Birthday Weekend

So last weekend Holly and I got away together for the first time since Ellie has been home (that's August). Back in July I had won a free night at the Doubletree in Lexington...won it playing in a golf scramble, I think it was a door prize, hey it was FREE!

GREAT time together...went to BD's for dinner...did some Christmas shopping...slept in on Saturday...had a breakfast date at Panera...went and Christmas shopped some more!

For Holly's birthday/Christmas I got her a Dell Netbook. It's just like a laptop, yet smaller...pretty cool.

I LUB (as Ellie says it) MY WIFE! Spending time with her never gets old...why? Because she's my best friend. I try to daily die to myself to put her needs and the needs of Bryan before my own. I don't always do a great job of that, but that's my heartbeat.

Lot's have transpired since my last post...I think this is the longest hiatus that I've had since I started blogging.

So here's some really random thoughts that come to mind to catch you up:

-Cardinal Football is over...new coach could be announced tomorrow, can't come soon enough. I like Kragthorpe, but just not the coach that the Cards need.

-Went hunting a few weeks ago, as always enjoyed my time with my father-n-law. Way too warm for deer to be out walking around, so we didn't see a lot of deer. I wish I was in the stand when this deer came by. Word is that Bass Pro Shops gave her $100,000 dollars for the head.

-Thoroughly enjoyed my eight week family medical leave with Ellie. I am so thankful for my church for the time off...not too many churches would do such a thing, there's good Godly people at FBC.

-Ellie has been doing great. She's been with us for 4 months now...feels like she's been here forever. There will be other post soon to follow on some Ellie moments.

-What's up with Tiger?

-We are going through our last phase of adopting Ellie. We are adopting her again to ensure that she is a US citizen. All that means is a little more paperwork, a judge, wallah...she'll be a US citizen.

-Read any good books lately? I'll have to review a few that I've read over the past few months.

-Thinking pretty hard about applying for he "Amazing Race."

-Bryan and I have been playing the new Modern Warfare 2...WOW!

-Cardinal basketball?? Rocky start...but that's okay, Ricky P always has them ready by March.

Larry the Cucumber

Every have the opportunity to be a mascot? Twice now I've been able to do such a thing...I'm not sure why I dig mascots, maybe it's because you can act like a complete idiot and no one knows.

Today I got to be Larry the Cucumber at our new Lifeway store here in Richmond. I had a blast shaking hands, high five-ing kids, giving the thumbs-up, lots of hugging and head rubbing, even danced the robot a few times. Yea, there were some kids who screamed thinking this giant pickle looking thing was going to rip their hand off...but overall a great time was had.

Ellie wasn't sure what to think...she just waved from a distance.

I am Mr. Mom

Well as of Monday that's what I've been, Mr. Mom. No I didn't lose my job...instead my church blessed me with 8 weeks of family medical leave. So for the next 8 weeks, I won't be in the office...I'll be teaching our Mosaic class on most Sunday's, but other than that I get some time off to be able to take care of our little girl.

I'm trying to make a "check-list" of things that we want to do together...so far? We've gone to the duck pond on EKU's campus, we've had two breakfast dates, watched a few episodes of Veggie Tales, we're singing songs every day...and lots of laughing!

I'm really excited about this time off...I want to keep on connecting with Ellie as she continues to connect with us. Everyday we see a little more of her personality and how she lives life...we're learning her likes and dislikes, etc.

God has such an incredible plan for her life. I'm so grateful to be her daddy and to be a part of this.

It's been 21 days since my last post...over the life of this blog I've taken some hiatus's, but not this long. Been a little busy with family...here's a few random thoughts:

-Ellie continues to amaze us with her little life. Her transition has been good...every day she picks up a little more English and her personality just keeps on blossoming.

-Bryan is about four weeks into his freshman year at Madison Central...he's still rocking on the drums (more video to come!) and turning into a very mature young man, that's hard to believe! (Not the mature part...the young man part)

-Holly is preparing to go back to work after being off since Aug. 7th. Don't think she's ready to go back. Holly is such an incredible mom to Bryan and Ellie...I learn so much from her.

-We started/revamped a new ministry within our church. It's our Mosaic Ministry (18-29 year olds)...I'm teaching every Sunday morning and I'm loving every bit of it. I've missed teaching on a regular basis, that's one part of youth ministry that I have really missed. I'm glad that I miss it...I think that's a part of how God wired me and I'm glad that I long for it.

-I love our church because they are like family. I love the people I work with every day...I even struggle to call it work because I love what I do. God is doing some great things at First Baptist...are we a perfect church? Nope, not by a long shot! But we continue to see people confess Jesus as Lord and walk through the waters of baptism.

-I'm getting ready to take some "Time Off" for awhile...I'll blog about this later, but I'll tell you this, I am very stoked!

-Cardinal Football is off and running 1-1 so far. The loss to UK was tough, but what a game! I'm thinking the Cards could be in contention once again in a year or two...even with Kragthorpe!

To sum it all up...

God has been so good and faithful to me. He's been teaching and stretching me more than ever, not sure what He is preparing me for, but I'm excited.

Today was a monumental one for our son Bryan...he started high school today. Dang, it seems like he just started kindergarten just yesterday. I'm so proud of him...he's turning into a young man and I love him dearly.

Words cannot begin to express my feelings over the past several weeks. A couple of years ago God began a new work in my family's life, we began the journey of adoption. The word journey describes this process very well...we had times when we were on cloud nine within the process only to be knocked back about six clouds. We've experienced lots of sleepless nights, lots of tears and setbacks...we've had many times of laughter and dreaming about what would this look like. We've seen God do what only God could do and will always give Him glory and praise for that...lots of prayers and petitions...again a journey that led to this.

If you have followed this blog even for a little while you would know that I am crazy about son Bryan. He's a strapping young lad...and I think he's a pretty talented guy. He's a drummer...and he plays them quite well. Not sure where he received the rhythm part in his life, definitely not in my genes, probably Holly!

Anyhow, he's been part of a thing called "Rock Band" this summer...Currier's Music World here in town put together this gathering of musicians...taught them the ends and outs of being part of a rock band. They practiced every Sunday afternoon...came up with five cover songs...put together a band name...were interviewed in the paper...and this Sunday they'll be putting on a concert at Camp Catalpa in Lake Reba. The band name is Separate...here's a link to the Richmond Register in which their band pic and story was on the front page.

I'm so proud of my boy...if you're in the area on Sunday come hear them play...4pm Camp Catalpa.

This past Saturday was our churches Single Mom's Oil Change ministry...we started this ministry back in September of '08. It's a really simply concept...trying to bridge our church to our community by serving them. One particular area is a ministry to single mom's.

We try to meet a physical need in order to meet the spiritual need...for lots of single mom's getting their oil change may be at the bottom of their list of priorities, plus there's a cost involved...but it's a priority that's vital to their family.

We had about 150 volunteers doing various jobs (oil changers, outside registration, host mom's, childcare, food prep, listeners, grunt work, etc.) As mom's pull their cars up to us, we get all the car's vitals...invite the mom's inside for coffee, food...we pair mom's with host mom's who talk, listen and pray...mom's can stay as long as they like, even their kiddos who are involved with crafts of all kinds.

This was our third Oil Change Ministry and I'm not sure who receives the biggest blessing, we as a church or the single mom's. I always think to the passage in the bible where Paul talks about how there is one body, but different parts...not everyone can be an eye or a knee...one without the other just doesn't make sense. Well to me, this encompasses the Single Mom's Oil Change ministry...everyone serving doing different jobs for one purpose...to bring glory and honor to the name of God and to show His love in a practical way.

I went to my second baby shower today...several friends from Holly's work gave a shower for us and of course for Ellie (the reason for the shower!)...

Holly works with some great people...I mean some really salt-of-the-earth folks. They too have been along for the ride in this whole adoption journey...they feel as much a part of this as we do...I like that, Ellie has so many people that love and pray for her...and yet she doesn't even know!

We were showered with some really great gifts...every outfit got the "ahhhhhhhhhh" reflex...our little girl is going to be styling!

It looks like August 7th is when we'll be traveling...about 99% sure. That's a little over two weeks away...can't get here soon enough! We've been searching air fares and making preps for our week there...again, can't get here soon enough.

It was a tough four days, but somebody had to do it...

Thursday - Saturday (GREAT WOLF LODGE) Nothing like being water-logged for three days! Great slides...nice rooms...good food...all three a great combination. There were eight of us total from the Prosser-Preuett Clan...

Sunday was King's Island day...a big thumbs up to the Diamondback Roller Coaster...about wet my pants! Just the three of us...

I love my family...I love sharing life with them. This is probably the last vacation that we take as a family of three! Ought to be pretty exciting to see what Ellie thinks about a place like King's Island.

Ellie Kedest Prosser

It was finally official on Thursday...Ellie's adoption case was presented to the Ethiopian courts...we passed on the first time around...she is officially a Prosser!

Really hard to put into words how this feels...all the waiting and anticipation...now we have to wait maybe a few more weeks before we travel to go and bring her home. We have some travel details to get together, an embassy date to have scheduled and then we go. Maybe early August...

We are stoked beyond being stoked...I'm a dad again...I gotta go get some cigars to pass out now!

New Challenge

After running the mini-marathon back in April, several folks asked, "Are you going to keep on running?" The easy answer is "YES!"...but I've struggled with motivation. I need something to challenge me...a goal to shoot for in running. I guess the motivation of just doing it for my health is not enough...I'm too weak and am addicted to cookies and ice cream!

So...here's the new challenge that I've been working towards. My buddy Mike McMahan is a big sprint triathlon-ist (sp?)...what's a sprint triathlon? A much shorter version of something like the Iron Man Triathlon in Hawaii...much, much shorter! Anyhoo...he encouraged me to try this thing out, even loaned me one of his bikes.

Sunday, July 26th I'll be competing in the Mike Caudill Memorial Triathlon. It will consist of 600-yards of swimming...12 mile bike ride...and 3.1 miles of running.

Last night I went out and biked 8 miles and attempted to run two...I only ran maybe a half mile...my legs were like spaghetti!

Hmmmmm...what have I gotten into??

Sorry for the blog break...been a busy week around here...so I'll do another recap post...here we go!

-Last week was VBS here at FBC. What a great week...we had all kinds of kiddos running around. The theme for the week was Crocodile Dock...my buddy John Hurt and I got to do some opening drama each night. We had a blast...we acted like idiots while portraying the message of Jesus, what a combo!

The best part of the week?? On Tuesday night our pastor Bill and I had the chance to share the gospel to all the kids...we know of 18 decisions that were made! So this week we'll be doing some follow-up with their families, how awesome is that!

-Yesterday (Saturday) we had a work day around the Prosser household...cleaning house, cutting grass, etc. We then headed up to Lexington to celebrate HEALING DAY. It's been two years now that Bryan has been healed from his year long battle with some "stomach" issues. Within that year he had six surgeries and several hospital stays. So we now celebrate the day when he was totally healed. Why celebrate? because that is now part of his life and story...why not celebrate to remind us of God's healing and faithfulness. I love my boy!

-COURT DATE IS THURSDAY, JULY 2nd! Once again we will await the word about bringing Ellie home. Her case goes before the judge over in Ethiopia this Thursday...we are praying that we pass...fly over sometime in August...bring our girl home. Then we will add another day to celebrate!

-Vacation?? In two weeks our families (mom, sis and fam) will be headed up to the Great Wolf Lodge for a few days. We went there last year and had a ball! Nothing but spending all day in the water. I love getting away like this with my family...we enjoy each other...we get a little goofy...we are family together.

Sometime today we should hear if we have "passed court" in Ethiopia. The suspense is thick...waiting for something that we've been praying about for well over a year has been an adventure. It all boils down to today's court date...

There is a man named Dereje, who is our power of attorney, who has/will present our request for the adoption of Kedest "Ellie". It's kind of mind boggling to think how this man is playing such a huge role in this part of the process...lots of what takes place is weighing on him. I know this is not the first time he's done this, but I wonder if he senses any type of "pressure" on him...I was praying for him last night...that God would use and prepare him as he presents our case to the judge.

I think there's a lesson of sorts in that...who has some "expectations" on you today? How will you come through? Hmmm...something to think about.

We've finally tallied everything from the Run for Ellie...I can't thank everyone enough for giving, praying and encouraging us through all of this. We have been and continue to be OVERWHELMED by God's grace through you...

So the total?? Drum roll please...tatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatata...

A little over $4,000! I still can't believe it...

Again, thanks to everyone who gave and supported this run! We invite you to pray along with us for our court date which takes place this Thursday, June 18th. If we pass court on that day...we'll travel to go and pick up Ellie within 4-6 weeks.

Yesterday we got some great news. The long awaited court date is next Thursday, June 18th. That is the day when our paperwork will be submitted to a judge in Ethiopia...they will then make a decision, if all paperwork is in place, all "T's" crossed and "I's" dotted...she will be deemed ours! After that...we'll begin making travel plans to go pick our girl up!

Pray along with us that we pass court the first time around...

We are stoked beyond being stoked...really hard to concentrate on anything right now!

Lots have transpired since my last post...getting kinda lazy. So here's some scoop within the Prosser household:

41st BIRTHDAY
Great time...No I don't feel 41...lots of great b-day wishes from lots of friends and family. One of the best gifts?? Mom's German Chocolate Cake...man we put this thing away even before I blew the candles out! Thanks mom!

Graduation Day!
Bryan graduated on June 1st...man I was so proud of him. First of all he was a very sharp dressed young man...red tie and all! It seems like yesterday we took him to his first day of school, no he's done grown up and will be a freshman next year at Madison Central. Once again Beezer...I am a proud pappa!

Dad and Lad Project
Okay so me and B have been having a good time building some things together...last month was a viking catapult. So in keeping with the viking theme we made a viking board game called Hneafafl. We learned of this game about a month ago at a cultural fair we went to in Berea. They had viking exhibit and this guy taught Bryan how to play and we then looked on line and found all the rules and dimensions...got the proper tools and made us a game! Did a little wood burning, little stain...etc. It plays like chess...google it out and learn to play yourself.

Star Trek

We saw the new Star Trek movie on Thursday night...I've been a fan since a little boy. Please note I would not consider myself a "Trekie"...much more of a Star Wars fan. But I've seen all the movies and this one by far is EXCELLENT! Very impressed by the story line (got a little odd towards the end)...loved the cast...Chris Pine does a suburb job as James T. Kirk. My favorite character in this movie would be Bones McCoy...he had all the mannerisms and lingo down.

If you are not a Star Trek fan, but would like to be...this would be a great entry point movie to go see...even Holly enjoyed it!

I'm on VACATION!

I'm taking a week's vacation all next week...and my destination is...drum roll...1809 Jacks Creek Road! That's home if you didn't know.

It's going to be a combination working / little R&R week. I'm working on our yard most of the week...I've got two big projects I'm wanting to do.

PROJECT #1
To fill up lots of holes and ruts in the front and back. Seems the ground continues to settle here...so in turn I've got some big ole ruts and it makes cutting grass like riding in a rodeo. So I've got a dump truck of good top soil coming on Monday (free baby!)...a friend is going to help me spread it on Wednesday...I'll throw some seed down on Thursday.

PROJECT #2
My drains off the house need to be extended away from the house and buried about 8 inches. So I'll be Mr. Plumber for a day, working with some pvc pipe, etc. Ought to help the rain to stay away from the house.

I might squeeze in a round of golf next week. Haven't played a lick this year...and really I haven't missed it. I plan on starting back running next week too...either the morning or evening hours...getting too hot in the middle!

So that's my plans for next week...this weekend Holly, Bryan and I are going up to Louisville to spend some time with Lloyd and Joann and then on up to Brown County for one night and two days. There's an indoor water park we've heard about...gonna give it a try!
