Survivor

One of my favorite reality shows that I watch is Survivor. Of all the ump-teen million reality shows I don't think any of them quite match up...although I am becoming a fan of "The Amazing Race."

Anyhoo...this year with Survivor Panama: Exile Island, I think they have one of the freshest, twist to the game since it started. The whole idea of contestants being sent to "Exile Island" where survivors spend a few nights by themselves, with the chance of finding an immunity idol that would be very beneficial if found.

Well, last night was the merge...I really thought Terry was going to sway some votes, but he didn't and Nick was voted off. Oh well...if you missed it you can go here and read about the show and last night's episode.

Several years ago I sent in a video tape to Survivor with the hopes of being a contestant. I think I have the right demographics to do well on the show. I haven't heard a peep from them since...they did tell me they would keep my tape for review for all upcoming Survivors. Making the video sure was a lot of fun! I had my family involved, my youth group and my motorcycle...in 13 degree weather. I'll see if I can't get my video uploaded on the blog somehow. Every now and then I'll watch it and think, "I'm such an idiot!"

Anybody interested in trying out for the next "Amazing Race?" Geron? We'd make a great team!

The Louisville Cardinals

The Cards stink! I think they went out and partied in the city the night before the game...oh well...next year!

Sorry!

Sorry for the long hiatus…life has just been busy. I will return tomorrow, if not tonight with a post or two. Of course it will more likely be tomorrow…the Louisville Cardinals are playing tonight in the semi’s of the NIT. Dog if you want, but they are still playing basketball in March! Go Cards!

Quick update!

I went to my doc appointment yesterday...he told me everything is looking good on the recovery part of surgery. He even told me to start trying to walk without crutches (as much as I could). So yesterday I took some baby steps without the aide of the crutch! And today I actually walked (more like stumbled!) from the bedroom to the kitchen crutch less. It felt pretty good! Little sore still...

Anyhoo...tonight I'm actually going to R.I.O.T. which is our Wednesday night youth worship. I've had my leaders leading everything since last Wednesday and even tonight. So I'm just going to hang out with my teens and worship with them...no responsibilities attached.

Next week, I'm attempting to go back to work (if I can drive!). ANYTHING other than sitting here on this couch!

It's getting old...

Just a quick update on the recovery:

I'm finally weaning off from taking the pain medication that sends me into "la-la" land. The knee is getting better each day. I've been to physical therapy three times now and that hasn't been too bad.

The problem is that this sitting in one or two spots throughout the day is getting a bit old! It's either the couch or back in the bed...the couch has been my primary spot. One can only watch Sports Center so many times and even that gets old.

I can't drive yet and I'm only able to get around with the aid of the crutches...I know, I know, it's only been a week today since the surgery, but I'm just getting a little impatient.

Going under the knife!

I've been dreading this...it's been on the calendar for awhile. Last August while I was in Mexico on a mission trip with my high school students, I hurt my knee. Chris Barrow and I were doing some serious roofing and spent all day squatting on our knees. That's where it all started.

When we got back home in Kentucky my knee was sore as a dog…it was all swollen and stuff. I hadn’t been able to go to the “Y” and do the workout thing or for that matter anything relating to physical exertion. So finally the day has come to get the knee working properly…Monday, March 6th at 8:30am I’ll be, for the first time in my life, having surgery.

Am I scared? Sorta…being that I’ve never had this done before has been freaking me out a bit. I’ve had some strange dreams about the surgery…very vivid, wake you up in the middle of the night kind. One dream in particular stands out. Before the surgery begins I’m in the operating room waiting…all those involved are standing in a circle discussing what to do. Two guys are off to the right of me sharpening scalpels like they're getting ready to carve a Thanksgiving turkey. I wake up from the surgery and both of my legs are gone! Well I made the mistake of telling some of my youth about the dream…they now call me…Lieutenant Dan.

So come Monday morning I would covet your prayers…I’ll probably be a big chicken and will freak myself out. I’ve asked Holly all sorts of questions like, “What if I wake up during the surgery?” “Will I feel anything?” “Will I remember anything?” I really freaked out when my brother-in-law, Jim asked me if they were going to put in a catheter! A WHAT!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Life is Good

Life is good because…(no particular order)

-i have a beautiful wife that I adore and love
-i have a healthy son who brings me joy
-it’s March and it’s warm outside
-baseball season is right around the corner
-one month of school down, two to go!
-i work in a great church with great people and a wonderful group of teenagers
-golf season is right around the corner
-i’ve got some of the best friends in the world and I value them
-my cat Sparks makes me laugh
-my wife sent me a box of Chocodiles
-of my close, tight knit family that I love
-it’s almost time for the Ky. Boys Sweet 16 and I love going to Rupp Arena to watch
-i am a healthy human being
-it’s almost time for March Madness
-because of Jesus Christ giving up His life so that I could live...that makes life REAL GOOD
-well…it’s just good!
