Lot's of folks have read it...I've got two chapters left...I know the controversy that has come from it...even heard William Young last week at Catalyst...I've got my own opinions and conclusions and will share them when I finish...
IF you have read the entire book, what are your thoughts?

loved it! I love the way it stirs the emotions and really got me thinking about how I view God. I think it's a beautiful piece of writing. but you already knew that, didn't ya?
Loved the book.
I do think that there are some questionable things in it, but overall it was a great view of how God wants our relationship to be like.

The story itself is warm and conveys the message of God loving us and how much He wants to be in relationship with us. That said, I did not agree with some of the theological ideas presented, nor was I comfortable with the idea of presenting God only as loving, without also including His attributes as a Holy, just God. It seemed to gloss over the aspects of why we need a Savior, in order to present a warm and fuzzy message that largely ignored our sin nature. One passage also sounded eerily similar to universalist ideas that all are saved. Though it may only be fiction, I am concerned that this story might give non-believers (or young, developing ones) a picture of God that is not biblical.

This is the third time I've heard this book mentioned and am still wondering what it's about. Please post something about what it is. A friend of mine at church asked me if I had read it and I hadn't heard of it and she didn't explain it. Then, Holly said she'd read it, and if she explained it, my postpartum brain forgot it. So, now, tell me what this is. I'm dying to know! Lydia
i'm waiting for the movie
I loved the book. I even took notes as I read it. I have recommended the book to several of my friends that I know are grounded in their beliefs because for a new Christian or non-Christian, I felt it might be difficult to remember that the book is fiction. Thanks, Holly, for telling me about the book.
